西端みずほ 個展

「everything without exception」

「安全基地」とは、精神的な不安や傷を負った際に戻ることのできる、心理的安定を与える拠り所 を指します。西端みずほは、これまで「安全基地」をテーマに、「心の拠り所とは何か? 人類共通 のものがあるのか ?」という問いを探求し続け、彼女自身や共同体が抱える言葉にできない感情を受け止め、昇華する空間を創出してきました。

彼女の制作は、個人的な経験をもとに、目を背けたい現実や忘れ去りたい過去を受け入れるプロセスに根ざしており、その先に微かな希望を見出そうとしています。このプロセスは「弔い」にも似た行為と捉えることができるでしょう。

本展では、「大切な存在を失ったとき、私たちはその別れの瞬間をどのように過ごすべきか?」という普遍的な問いを軸に、死と向き合うための態度を探求し、心の拠り所となる空間を提示します。そして「命には限りがある」という避けがたい現実を鑑賞者に突きつけながら、同時にその空間で死と生の両方を見つめ、生きることの尊さを再確認する機会を提供します。

Mizuhō Nishizato Solo Exhibition

“Everything Without Exception”

A “safe haven” refers to a place of psychological stability that one can return to when experiencing mental anxiety or trauma. Mizho Nishizato has continued to explore the theme of “safe havens,” asking questions such as “What is a place of refuge for the heart? Is there something universal to all of humanity?” She has created spaces that embrace and sublimate the indescribable emotions that she and her community hold.

Her work is rooted in the process of accepting realities one wishes to avoid or past experiences one wishes to forget, based on personal experiences, and seeks to find a faint glimmer of hope beyond that. This process can be seen as akin to the act of mourning.

In this exhibition, she explores the universal question of “How should we spend the moment of parting when we lose someone dear to us?” She seeks an attitude toward confronting death and presents a space that serves as a refuge for the soul. While confronting viewers with the inescapable reality that “life is finite,” she also provides an opportunity to reflect on both death and life within that space, reaffirming the preciousness of existence.
